Assignments at a Glance

It was a pleasure meeting your child today and although many of us were nervous for the first day of school, I believe we all felt more comfortable as the day progressed and we are looking forward to the upcoming year!  Once the school year gets into full-swing, probably Week 2 or 3, the assignments listed below will be assigned regularly.  Please discuss these assignments with your child throughout the year and help them stay on track if needed.

Monday – Thursday

Daily Homework Assignments:
Read 40 minutes and update reading log on Readingglue.com
Math worksheet (Tenmarks only starting 8/3)

Weekly Homework/Classwork Assignments typically due Friday:
Spelling or Greek/Latin Roots
Vocabulary
Blog Post responding to a prompt
Math Tenmarks (online assignment)

Friday – Sunday

Read and update reading log on Readingglue.com as applicable

*Occasionally there may be other assignments, but students should spend no more than 80 minutes a day on homework.  Please discuss any concerns with Mrs. Mendoza so we can work together to help your child.

Student Blogs Awaiting Audience

Please visit http://kidblog.org/Room416/ to read our students’ writing and leave encouraging comments for our aspiring authors.  Students have been busy responding to teacher-created prompts as well as completing their own creative writing.  During Daily 5 time each day, students are allowed to work on their blog as part of the Work on Writing option.  We have also been “visiting” other class blogs to generate ideas to improve our own work.  Please visit our blog regularly to provide feedback from an authentic audience.  Thank you!
