EOY Activities

I just wanted to post this letter that was sent home by Mrs. Mendoza before spring break initiated. There is certain criteria that students must meet in order to participate in our End of the Year activities–one of it being 90% of completion of assignments. (EOY Activities Criteria)

We have been working on the following assignments in class for the quarter. I have made a list of them followed by the due dates:

  • Should College Athletes be Paid? Essay due: Friday May 11
  • Unexplored Place Narrative due: Friday May 18
  • Ancient China Museum Project due: Friday May 25 (there is multiple components to it)

Class time has been granted for each of these assignments and therefore it is expected all assignments are turned in completed. 6th Grade policy states that students will loose participation in EOY activities in order of AMC/Park day, Olympic Day, then Legoland if assignments are not turned in. I have reviewed the criteria with students and reviewed the letter they received as well to ensure we are all on the same page for the EOY activities criteria. If your child does not submit an assignment, I will notify you via email. If you have any questions please feel free to email me or ClassDojo me.

Thank you for your cooperation to ensure we finalize the year smoothly.

End of the Year at a Glance

Hello 416 Families,

I wanted to give you a brief overview of what these last four weeks of school will look like. As stated in the calendar sent home CAASP testing will begin on Monday up till Friday. Monday the 14th will be the final exam, which is the Achieve Level Set to update their final Lexile score for middle school. Our month will then look like the following:

Week of 5/7-5/11: CAASP Testing

Week of 5/14-5/18: A.G.E classes will begin. If you do not want your child to participate please send back the permission slip I sent home three weeks ago so I can make accommodations during these lessons for your child.

5/18: Promotion Rehearsal at MPR, Final Day to turn in EOY Money and      Permission Slips.

5/21: Promotion Rehearsal at Eastlake Church

5/24: 6th Grade Awards Ceremony (I will send letters home if your child will be receiving an award)

5/25: Promotion Rehearsal at MPR

5/28: Memorial Day (No School)

5/29: AMC/Park Day

5/30: Olympic Day/ Kickball

5/31: Legoland

6/1: Promotion Ceremony at Eastlake Church

Lastly, to clarify Legoland is $20 not $15. On the permission slip we wrote the incorrect amount. I will send home a receipt to verify you paid the $35 for the activities. If by any circumstances you cannot pay please notify me as soon as possible. Also, I am in need of more chaperones. Please send back the chaperone slip I sent home if you would like to chaperone any of our EOY activities.

Thank you,

Ms. Gamboa

Updates

Conferences (Minimum Days)
Spring conferences (and minimum days) begin this Thursday, 3/8, and continue all next week. Please be sure to follow your scheduled conference time. Remember that your child will be your host during this time. You may check the conference schedule here.

EMS (blue) Forms
There has been some confusion regarding the Eastlake Middle School forms and where to turn it in. On the cover page, it states to turn in the form to the 6th grade teacher by 3/9 so I am waiting on confirmation that EMS will be coming to pick them up after that date. I’m sorry for the confusion and will try to give you an update as soon as I hear back.

Ancient Greece Research Reports due Thursday
Research reports are due this Thursday, typed on Google Classroom. Most of the work is being completed in class, but please ask your child to see his/her project before the due date. Students have been very engaged and eager to research an Ancient Greek topic of their choice.

Return from Camp

I know you are anxiously waiting for your 6th grader to return home! Tomorrow, buses should arrive (at the front of school) between 12 and 1. You will be able to sign them out at that time. I’m sure the children will be tired and ready to fill you in on all of their adventures. I will send out more messages tomorrow as the buses get closer to Chula Vista so you have a more precise ETA. Please refrain from calling the office to ask about the buses. I guarantee that I will have the most up to date information for you. See you all tomorrow!

Valentine’s Day Exchange

On Wednesday, 2/14, if your child would like to pass out Valentine’s Day cards (non food-items only), they may do so as long as they bring one for each student (28 students). I will provide the class roster on Google Classroom for students to view.

Camp Photos on Homeroom

If you would like to see photos from camp, please join Homeroom here. This is the easiest platform that I’ve discovered to share photos easily and privately. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee photos of every child but I will try to get as many groups shots as possible so you can look for your child. They are having a wonderful time so far. Today, they will begin their activity day groups, which include hiking, trees, water, wilderness survival, activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, archery, etc. It should be a beautiful day!
